Watford Bridge Club's history
The club was originally run as a private owned venture in Bushey High Street prior to 1962 and the Bushey and Watford Bridge Club was formed in early 1963. The early days were difficult financially with cut-in rubber sessions and partnership rubber sessions meeting in a room in the Conservative offices in Watford, in a café in Bushey High Street, in a private house (now an hotel) in Westland Road and in a restaurant in the Odeon cinema.
It was the move to the Darby and Joan Club that prompted the start of duplicate bridge and the Club's affiliation to Hertfordshire. After several moves later we play duplicate (April 1997) and rubber (2004) in the Beechen Grove Baptist Church hall .
We think that only Alastair Allan remains and plays actively in the Club as a "founding" member all those years ago. The Club was renamed Watford Bridge Club in 1985.
